Hello, Porcfest…And Goodbye
A young man stood in front of where I was sitting so that the holstered pistol strapped to his hip was a foot or so from my face. There were lots of folks openly carrying on the campground and probably quite a few carrying not so openly. The young children running around were far safer here than in any of the US cities where only the local gestapo are allowed to carry weapons openly and use them.
I tagged along with TDV's editor-in-chief to Lancaster, New Hamsphire, for the last couple of days of Porcfest X. It was amazing to be surrounded by hundreds of people who did not want to aggress against me in any way at all. I had amazing talks with very impressive people, and even got to meet and hang out with the other black guy at the event. Turns out he is also Caribbean (and coincidentally shares a first name of my oldest friend in Brooklyn who is also of Caribbean extraction).
While it was fun to talk about non-aggression and Bitcoin with the various principled smartypants I kept running into, the conversation that shook me free of my cynicism for at least half an hour was the one I had with a 15-year-old philosopher named Jeffrey Maxim of Skeptical Youth. Recently unschooled, energetic, principled, thoroughly rational, and just an outright nice guy, Jeffrey gives me the indulgence of hope.
Honestly, being on a campground three hours from anything resembling an urban center isn't really for me. In fact, I have to agree with my travel partner when he said that the idea of the three-hour drive back to the airport makes suicide seem like a better choice. But Porcfest is still something that a liberty-minded person just has to experience. It really is a little slice of what a free society would look like.
It's beautiful, spontaneous order with people doing the sorts of things the state would have you believe would result in chaos. Here men and women provided for their own safety and protection and ignored the ridiculous prohibitions like the whiffs of politicking nonsense they are.
Still, there was a lot of interest in TDV's Galt's Gulch, Chile. Even though the folks here had a relatively easy relocation to be among like-minded individuals, they were acutely aware that staying within the Fatherland's borders represented a considerable risk. I imagine that things will get so much worse in the USSA before they get better that having an escape plan still makes sense even if you're cuddling with a thousand other liberty-minded folks behind God's back in New Hampshire.

Jeff Berwick on how Kanada is quietly becoming more and more like their warmongering neighbors..
“The top conman of Kanada, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, actually stated at the G-8 summit that it is the G-7 plus one.
He's got quite the gall, considering Kanada is not even in the top eight GDP countries on Earth. Three countries that are not even included in the G8 have a higher GDP than Kanada (Brazil, India and China). And, ahem, China is #2 on Earth and still gets excluded!
Kanada sits at number 11, behind Russia.
Yet, Stephen Harper has the nerve to say that Russia should not be included in this ignominious.”

Gary Gibson considers the NSA and General Keith Alexander’s state-sponsored domestic spying.

But it's government large scale terrorism that induces small scale reprisals in the first case most of the time. Even Sesame Street Can't Ignore America's Collapse
Jeff Berwick uses Sesame Street as a jumping off point to look at the ever-devolving USSA.
“Sesame Street has helped kids open up about all sorts of serious subjects that are commonplace in the USSA today, from hunger and divorce to their parents going off to commit terrorist acts on the part of the financial and political elite (military deployment). In fact, one in 28 children in the United States now has a parent in a rape camp (jail) — more than the number of kids with a parent who is sent overseas to commit acts of terrorism (military).
But it’s really no surprise that Sesame Street has to devote some time to help kids with a parent in jail, given that the US has the largest concentration camps on Earth per person by a factor of nearly four over the next largest oppressor.”
