TDV Week in Review December 22nd, 2013

Before we get to the review let’s have a look at what you missed in this week’s TDV Dispatch. Most importantly, take note of an important message from Jeff Berwick about an exciting new initiative from TDV. This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to best prepare for TEOTMSAWKI, and something you’ll only get from TDV.

Also this week in my “Memory Hole” I discussed the failings of talking heads.

Ed Bugos updated us on investing in “TDV Portfolio: Review & Outlook”. Next, Jeff took us around the world of the absurd in his weekly “Other News from TEOTMSAWKI and TDV Related Tidbits”.

Finally, we profiled Peter Thiel.

The 2014 Master Auction and Battered Syndrome

Wendy McElroy the failings of the USSA’s “two” party system.

“Republican or Democrat? It's a trick question and a faux fight in the political war. Like a circus, it offers distraction from the real problem. The problem is not the face behind the office of power; it is the office of power itself which is unjust and destructive of all that is decent within man and society.

On some level, intelligent people understand this and so they chuckle cynically at jokes like “don't vote, it only encourages them.” Yet the same people will line up at voting stations in 2014 in much the same manner as they line up submissively at airports for screening. Some people will remain in the US to cast a vote in the hope that a shift in leadership will fundamentally change society. Or, at least, change it enough so that America once more becomes a safe place to raise children and grow old.  [Editor's Note: And some people will have wised up and made other arrangements.] The joke is on them. But no one who cares about freedom will be laughing.”

The Dow/Gold Ratio

Phil Champagne discusses the Dow/Gold relationship.

“Sharelynx.com provides this interesting long term chart of the Dow measured in gold. I find this chart very interesting, although I would prefer if Sharelynx would have created two separate trend lines, one before 1913 going up at a much higher rate, and one after 1913, clearly at a much more unstable and slower growth rate.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dates back only to the late 1800s but Sharelynx extrapolated the index to the early 1800s. Assuming this extrapolation is right, there are a lot of interesting pieces we can glean from this chart. First of all, we can clearly see the rate of growth is fairly stable except for a few occasions such as the ‘civil war’.”

Satoshi's Revolution

Tyler Yasaka with more on the ongoing bitcoin revolution.

" For the past 100 years, the private entity known as the Federal Reserve has been manipulating the American economy and destroying the dollar. From the Great Depression of the 1930’s to the Recession of 2008, millions of ordinary people around the world have suffered the consequences.

Enter cryptocurrencies. In 2008, in the midst of the recession, a shady figure known as Satoshi Nakamoto released to the world a brand new technology. It was a digital currency called bitcoin. Now, to be fair, this was not the first digital currency to be created. However, it was unique in one particular aspect—it was entirely decentralized. There was no central issuer of bitcoin. Rather, it was a network with a particular framework in place. That framework was not enforced not by any one person or group. That framework was enforced by the users of bitcoin. For the first time in history, there was a digital currency whose legitimacy was derived directly from its users.”

Death: The New Retirement for US Citizens

Jeff Berwick shares the startling revelation that death is the new retirement.

"I thought about calling this article, "Retirement: The New Heaven" (for US citizens at least), but found it too opaque.  So, I simplified.

Retirement is a "20th century relic," according to Wells Fargo's annual surveys on retirement.

The bank finds year-after-year that middle class Americans anticipate they will work until illness or death. If this trend continues, respondents will indicate they will be forced to work from the grave. That's why we highly urge you to join the record number of citizens contributing to the brain drain of US society.”

2014 May Be The Last Year to Salvage Your Assets: An Urgent Message from Jeff Berwick

Jeff and TDV Wealth Management with an exciting new program and conference. Do not miss this post.

“The world is changing — dramatically! Paradigm shifts are happening everywhere. We are reaching the culmination of The End Of The Monetary System As We Know It (TEOTMSAWKI).

It won’t all happen at once. There will not be a certain day or time when it is announced by the media that all of the government and central bank constructs built up over the last century have collapsed. It will happen as it has been happening, with more and more things falling apart, day by day.”
