[The following post is by TDV editor-in-chief, Jeff Berwick.]
As many of our American readers are slowing waking up from their tryptophan, or more like "massive meal with gravy and wine", we thought we might again point out that all that food in front of them this Thanksgiving may also be the best investment to survive The End Of The Monetary System As We Know It (TEOTMSAWKI).

We, of course, like gold and silver for their ability to not-so-easily be counterfeited by the Bernank. But we don't necessarily see gold and silver as an investment. An investment produces returns beyond just their ability to hold or increase their value during certain periods such as these. And, while we love Bitcoin, which at the time of this writing has nearly passed gold in value at $1,200 we also don't see it as an investment but more of a speculation. A speculation that we have liked since 2011 at $3.
And, of course, we also like gold and silver mining stocks. We advise our TDV Premium customers on longer-term mining stock plays and our TDV Golden Trader subscribers on shorter-term plays. But again these are not investments as much as they are speculation.
And, finally, we also like foreign real estate because it is impossible to be repatriated by thieving governments and because, if you choose the right "foreign place", you may do very well over the coming years… and, not to mention, you also then have a bolthole to run too as TEOTMSAWKI worsens. That's why we've been involved in Galt's Gulch Chile since the beginning. But, even that we don't see as an investment. Unless you plan to rent out your properties then it is just an asset… one that could do very well in value terms, but still an asset. And the house itself is actually a depreciating asset with ongoing costs in upkeep.
That really leaves two investments that actually are traditional investments and that make sense for surviving and prospering during the collapse of the US dollar and the monetary system: energy and agriculture.
If things get so bad that no one can even afford energy nor food, then we'll all have worse problems than investments. But, chances are, the world will continue on during the final stages of TEOTMSAWKI. Everyone will will just be very, very uncomfortable during a time of drastically declining living standards, particularly in the West where everyone is addicted to debt.
We haven't focused much on energy here at TDV, except for a small position in uranium (with some regrets), but we started out our TDV portfolio with our second largest allocation (after gold and silver) in agriculture.
JIM ROGER'S BEST INVESTMENT PICK
Jim Roger's has been quoted numerous times in the past few years on agriculture being his top investment pick. We don't agree with all of his ideas on economics and politics, but we find a man who moved away from the US, says all fiat currencies will collapse by 2015, and who said, "forget banking, become a farmer" to be quite onboard with our way of thinking.
Here is one of his quotes from last year:
"There’s going to be a huge shift in American society, American culture, in the places where one is going to get rich. The stock brokers are going to be driving taxis. The smart ones will learn to drive tractors so they can work for the smart farmers. The farmers are going to be driving Lamborghinis. I’m telling you."
We agree with him but would take it one further… you should invest in producing farmland outside of the US.
The reasons are clear. The fascist US government and the farm lobby/monopoly have been destroying the small US farms for years. The most outrageous attacks have been on small farms that produce raw milk. Raw milk producers present an easy target because they produce milk that violates inane federal laws supposedly designed to keep consumers "safe." The Department of (In)Justice has sent federal armed goons with guns drawn to terrorize unarmed farmers and destroy their product and their livelihoods. These federal thugs have laughed as they carried out these heinous acts
WHERE TO INVEST
As I wrote last week in "Perhaps The Best Investment For Surviving The Coming Collapse", I prefer the southern parts of South America. However, I should add, there are plenty of places ripe for profit if done right including Peru, Colombia, Guyana and many places in Asia as well. And, in fact, we have TDV'ers in many of those areas who can help you get your feet on the ground through TDV Groups which is accessible as when you become a TDV Basic subscriber.
But if you aren't used to those countries, expect to spend years figuring out the lay of the land, learning the local language and finding the opportunities.
That's why we think an investment into foreign producing agricultural land that is already operating with all the hurdles of figuring out the who/what/where have already been taken care of is a much better, and easier, investment.
Galt's Gulch Chile (GGC) has begun to offer investment into their organic farming operation which already has been producing a wealth of produce and continues to do so. We told TDV subscribers about it first last week and already this investment opportunity is more than half sold out.
You can see a full run-down of the opportunity by clicking here.
Even better, you can purchase the investment — which also comes with an option on discounted property to live at GGC — for bitcoin and also gold or silver. And many TDVers have already been doing just that!
Already expansion plans appear to be in the works due to the interest level. But as always, the earlier you get in on an opportunity like this, the better if it turns out to be a big success. And it appears to be headed in that direction.
