The week is over, and the US authorities got through it with only one civic lockdown (that we know of). Rights of the citizenry were suspended in Boston so that the Boston PD and the FBI could wear their combat unis and get out the big guns. Christmas for cops! Now things are back to normal. Or so you think.

Please do not denigrate lizards by associating them with Graham. Lizards and snakes are a lot more sociable than the likes of Graham.

My apologies to you, Andrew, and to all of lizardkind. I didn't mean to denigrate our reptilian friends. They are blameless parts of the natural order. Lindsey Graham is neither blameless nor quite natural. Graham is everything that is wrong with human beings. In other words, he is the perfect politician. Like the other exemplary models of his kind — Obama, Clinton, Schumer, Biden, Bush, Pelosi, Lieberman, et al — Graham doesn't just believe he knows what's best for everyone; he also believes that outrageous amounts of violence should be liberally applied to enforce his views.
He doesn't mind how many innocents, including very young children, get blown up by American bombs. In fact we suspect that he would like to tear a few children apart with his own hands and teeth. Graham thinks it's a damned shame that there aren't government cameras on every corner and in every room of every house. Yet. His ideal world is one of perpetual war, where things mostly go smoothly with the occasional explosion and body count to remind the heavily monitored citizens to be thankful that the government is reading their email and occasionally rounding up a handful of them as an example to the others.
Personally I suspect that the total state world of Graham's dreams is also suspiciously free of homosexuals, minorities and people who don't pray to Graham's god. Despite these absences there is still the occasional explosion, however, to justify the surveillance and the round ups. Peace without violence isn't merely impossible in Graham's mind; it ought not to be allowed no matter how possible it might be.
To be honest, however, most people I've met have at least a little bit of Graham in them. Everyone outside of this narrow philisophical band of anarchism we occupy is something of a politician. They are brutalized from birth to believe that their brutalized minds are somehow natural…that human nature is inherently bad and needs a lot of intimidation and force to keep all the members of the species in line. Order cannot be spontaneous; it must come at the barrel of a gun in the hand of a politician.
We're hoping it gets better…that in a couple hundred years there will have been enough children raised without intimidation and violence that the Non-Aggression Principle will come to be seen by everybody as the obvious cornerstone of human interaction…that the world will be a place of voluntary associations where the state won't exist as the glaring exception, like it does now. We're not holding our breath, however, because that is a long way off.
When liberty truly reigns, society will be rich beyond our current imaginings and life will be wonderful. There is a lot of misery between here and there, however, and it's best to play the speculative opportunities created by the state's interference in everything. SECURITY OF RESOURCES

Could "security of resources" [mentioned by Dear Slavey yesterday] mean an ample supply of water, food and fuel with a secure means of providing such.

Indeed it could, Greg. I'll pass that insight along to Slavey. In the meantime, we checked in about security of such resources with Ken Johnson, managing director of Galt's Gluch, Chile. Ken knows a thing or two (actually a lot more than that!) about securing resources. Here's what he had to say:
GGC is on-grid, with underground power lines along the roads, as well as off-grid with solar, waste-to-energy/fuel and other renewable energy technologies…ample fresh water supply from natural springs, mountain runoff, rainwater collection and water wells of various depths for the community. Organic farming is also part of the community, with a large working farm, as well as residents being able to grow their own organic food (seed supplied by GGC, to insure no GMOs are introduced). The climate is ideal for growing virtually any vegetables, fruits, nuts, etc., desired. Fuel can be created locally (i.e. bio-fuels and fuels from waste products) and will be created as the need arises.
From my years in the environment and energy fields, we have access to technologies that nobody else does in South America, or in the States, other than my colleagues who have invented them or own them. These will be used in the community, but will not be advertised. Only residents will have access to them.
