George Zimmerman Trial Distracts the USSA

[Editor's Note: The following post is by TDV Managing Editor, Redmond Weissenberger]

The verdict in the trial of George Zimmerman has been rendered but the issue still hogs the news cycle. The mainstream media is convinced that the American justice failed Trayvon Martin. What's never questioned is the efficacy of the state's monopoly over courts and law. The collectivist parrots would rather push their progressive agenda.

Meanwhile, actual news continues to go without significant debate or notice. Leaks over the ubiquitous spying apparatus established by the NSA continue to be put out by the indispensable Guardian. The latest from state fugitive Edward Snowden shows how Microsoft and the NSA worked closely together to ensure the US government has ready access to the email accounts of millions — Bill of Rights be damned. Given Bill Gates' chummy relationship with Obama, Warren Buffet, and the rest of the elite political class, Microsoft preying on its customers is no surprise. But the lack of outrage over the whole quasi-fascist affair is troublesome.

When Ben Bernanke mentioned that the Fed's massive bout of money printing may begin tapering off by the end of the year, markets freaked and government bond yields began to rise. Now this was not a large sell-off. But it demonstrated just how fragile the financial system is and, more importantly, how addicted it is to central bank stimulus. This should be alarming news for anyone concerned about the economy. Instead, it's treated as a bump in the road, even though Bernanke's cohorts had to come out and calm the market by ensuring the money printing would not end anytime soon.

So as the economy continues to teeter on a central bank precipice and the police/surveillance state grows, the mainstream media would rather focus on trivialities. Drones are being deployed worldwide. There are hints that the NSA's spying apparatus is much larger and more menacing than we know. Edward Snowden is fighting for his life in seeking asylum from the US government. Puppets states like France and Portugal are actively working to detain him.

The crackdown on liberty and property rights is happening everywhere. But the regimists in the media would rather focus on tiny cases that have little bearing to the tyranny we all face. When the next asset bubble blows up in the face of central bankers, the financial talking heads will be caught off guard yet again. Thankfully we have decentralized, alternative media to keep us up-to-date on all the state aggression taking place.
